Four blowouts and two injured quarterbacks. It was a bad weekend for the Canadian Football League.
There are good stories, too. The performance of Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, as he fends off any challenge for his job from Johnny Manziel, is impressive. And Winnipeg Blue Bombers rookie quarterback Chris Streveler looks to be the right guy in the right place at the right time.
But back to the scoreboard. The closest game of the four played in Week 2 had a 17-point difference. In Saskatchewan’s 23-point loss to Ottawa, Roughriders quarterback Zach Collaros was forced out of the game because of a possible concussion. In Toronto’s 34-point loss to Calgary, Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray left on a stretcher, with concern that his back injury may end the career of their 38-year-old star and last year’s Grey Cup-winning quarterback.
Another four games are dead ahead. As a fan, hope they’ll be better. As a person, hope the injured quarterbacks will be OK.
