Jovon Johnson, you’re it.
Of all the Saskatchewan Roughriders players who received rings for winning the 2007 Grey Cup, you’re the last one still playing football.
Defensive end John Chick retired in the offseason, as property of the Edmonton Eskimos. Quarterback Darian Durant retired days before training camp with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
And slotback Andy Fantuz is retiring before his second team, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, plays host Thursday to his first team.
Johnson played two games with the Roughriders in 2007. He was on their practice roster for the Grey Cup, but was still presented with a championship ring.
Johnson’s career subsequently took him to Winnipeg, Ottawa and Montreal before rejoining Saskatchewan last season, when he revealed that he regretfully sold that ring.
Johnson is a starting cornerback for the Roughriders, trying to cap his career the way it started 11 years ago by winning another Grey Cup ring, one he would undoubtedly keep this time.
