No matter what happens on or off the field, nothing hurts the NFL
The 2018 season starts tonight with a game between the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles. The reigning Super Bowl champions who weren’t extended the usual invitation to visit the White House because many of the players didn’t want to meet beleaguered President Donald Trump.
The league paid a billion dollars to settle a lawsuit over concussions.
Because players were kneeling during the national anthem — to protest racial injustice — the owners mandated new pregame rules. It will be interesting to see how the players and fans react.
Many fans are already steaming over Nike ads promoting Colin Kaepernick, a former NFL quarterback whose career ended after initiating the national-anthem kneeling.
Almost all kicking plays have been eliminated by the game’s caretakers. Attempting to make the game safer, rules are being enforced to reduce impact between players. Fans are mad about their franchises leaving St. Louis, San Diego and Oakland.
Grumble, grumble, grumble.
