A 22-year-old Regina man is accused of shooting his own mother.
The man made his first court appearance Wednesday, three days after Regina police were called to a Lakeridge-area home and found a 48-year-old woman inside with a gunshot wound.
Police charged the man with attempted murder on Sunday.
Standing teary-eyed in an orange jumpsuit and his blonde hair tied in a bun, the man trembled as defence lawyer Sharon Fox told court that the complainant is his mom.
His family, including his mother, attended the court session, sitting across from the prisoner’s box.
Fox told Judge Bruce Henning that the Sunday shooting incident was a “familial offence,” and that the man is currently in medical care at the Regina General Hospital, citing what she called “medical issues.”
The Crown prosecutor asked Henning to order that the man not contact his mom; Henning agreed to a temporary order.
Fox and the man’s family declined to speak with media on Wednesday.
The man will make his next court appearance on Tuesday next week.
