Johnny Manziel’s name keeps popping up.
And we didn’t say it first! Judging by our Green Zone text line, Manziel would be a popular addition to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who desperately need a quarterback. Last year’s quarterbacks, Zach Collaros and Brandon Bridge, become free agents in February. Judging by Collaros’ problems with concussions and Bridge’s ineffectiveness, neither is likely to re-sign in Saskatchewan.
A solid quarterback would make the Roughriders a CFL contender. That was the consensus during Tuesday’s Green Zone. And when Jamie Nye asked our listeners who should be Saskatchewan’s next quarterback, Manziel was mentioned more than Mike Reilly, Bo Levi Mitchell or Jonathon Jennings.
Manziel, aka Johnny Football, showed some promise as a famous CFL rookie, but he is under contract to the Montreal Alouettes, who acquired him from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He might become a fine quarterback and he might be a good addition, but joining the Roughriders doesn’t look to be in Manziel’s future.
