Lesson learned for Roughriders President and CEO Craig Reynolds.
When looking for sustained success, don’t put your eggs in the basket of a man who has left two previous employers unimpressed with his departure, and premature departures at that. Still under contract with the Stampeders and the Eskimos, Jones was looking for more money and more opportunity.
When he got here, Jones wouldn’t buy a house, instead opting for a hotel room in the downtown for six months. Clue #2 Jones wasn’t here for the long term.
And a week after the team announced a contract extension, we see him a member of the Cleveland Browns staff, three years into his tenure, with two years left on a contract.
You can debate for days whether Reynolds was right to give Jones the option to take off a week after signing an extension and re-signing his entire coaching staff.
Now we’ll find out if the Riders big boss actually learned his lesson to find sustained success with someone who actually wants to be here for the long term.
