Air Canada has landed in Toronto, and hopefully for Brandon Bridge, like the company that shares his nickname, some of his baggage gets lost along the way.
Bridge is a rare Canadian quarterback many CFL fans are hoping to see do things not seen since Russ Jackson.
In Saskatchewan, we saw a young upstart Canadian quarterback turn into the go-to back-up in 2017 when protection issues broke down. Bridge would throw for 10 touchdowns and just four interceptions and nearly led the Riders to the 2017 Grey Cup game.
What happened in 2018 is still a head-scratcher. In the same amount of attempts and completions, Bridge had 400 fewer yards and nine fewer touchdown passes. His yards per attempt were dreadful, as all of a sudden it appeared the Riders wouldn’t let him or he didn’t have the confidence to throw the ball further than 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.
But now Bridge is home, in the city where he was raised, and hopefully he has a chance to fly after being grounded last season.
