After a handful of noise bylaw charges and some back-and-forth between neighbours, a Moose Jaw fitness studio is packing up and dancing into a new space a few blocks away.
Kyra Klassen, who owns Dance Fitness with Kyra, says the studio is moving to a fully commercial building on River Street West on May 1.
“We just feel that it’s best for everybody involved if we part ways where we are at — to start new,” she explained in an interview Friday afternoon. “I don’t think it’ll change, it’ll just go back to normal. It’s just being able to run our classes knowing that we’re not going to be interrupted by anything or anybody.”
Rock legend Burton Cummings of The Guess Who is said to be one those living in the mixed-use building who have complained about the studio’s apparent loud music.
Last month, the complaints went as far as to leave Klassen with six noise bylaw charges, which are to be heard in provincial court Thursday.
“Whatever the outcome is, I’m excited to have it closed, put to rest and to start fresh,” she said, adding her new studio will have twice the space, which will leave room for showers and a new circuit station.
Looking back at the past few months, Klassen said she hopes the City of Moose Jaw and other small business owners will see this as a lesson to look for loopholes within bylaw legislation.
This feud has moved the city to review and seek feedback on its noise bylaw.
