The Regina Police Service has determined that an alleged abduction on July 23 instead was an armed robbery.
In a media release Wednesday, the police said investigators have spoken to the 24-year-old man who was the victim in the case and he is safe.
Just after noon on July 23, officers attended the King’s Head Tavern in the Northgate Mall after getting a report that a person had been seen in the parking lot with a sawed-off shotgun.
Police said a vehicle with a single person inside pulled into the lot, and a small black car or SUV pulled up behind it. An individual got out of the black car with what appeared to be a gun and pointed it at the driver of the other vehicle.
Police said the driver got out of his vehicle and got into the black car, in which another suspect sat. Both vehicles drove away and no shots were fired.
On Wednesday, a police spokesman couldn’t say what the man was robbed of or how he got away, but noted the man hadn’t been abducted. The investigation into the robbery is continuing and charges haven’t been laid.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
