It’s two more years for Cody Fajardo as the Roughriders locked on to a new franchise quarterback with an extension to reward him for his excellent play this season.
He’s 11-4 as a starter and there hasn’t been this much excitement about a quarterback in Saskatchewan since Darian Durant got his first start in 2008.
And I know some will disagree, but this season is already a success for the Riders without knowing what they do in the post-season.
Look, the Riders were left scrambling to start 2019 when Chris Jones left, and they’ve checked several boxes.
Jeremy O’Day has done a bang-up job as general manager.
Craig Dickenson is a candidate for coach of the year.
Jason Shivers’ defence is statistically better than Jones’ — outside of the absurd amount of TDs last season.
And now they’ve found a franchise quarterback.
Oh, and they’ll likely host a playoff game.
Even without the ultimate prize, it’s not too early to declare 2019 a success.
