The 14-year-old boy who tossed coffee at two people in July has pleaded guilty to assault and was given a conditional discharge on Wednesday.
The incidents happened on July 30 in the parking lot near the Walmart and Winners stores in east Regina. One of the incidents was recorded and posted online.
One of the victims said later that week that he wouldn’t feel safe until the culprits were caught.
The 14-year-old boy was arrested in mid-November and charged with assault with a weapon.
In court on Wednesday, the teen was sentenced to a conditional discharge including eight months of probation. He also has to complete 20 hours of community service and write an apology to each of the victims.
Before the proceedings were over, the boy got up and asked the judge what was going to be done about the death threats he said he and members of his family were getting. The judge suggested he make a complaint to police.
In his comments, the boy also referred to the incidents as pranks several times, saying: “What about all those people on the Internet with pranks like that?”
The judge seemed at a loss for a moment, saying he can only deal with the matters before him.
