Regina City Hall is joining in on the Hearts of YQR trend and it will be lit up in blue to honour health-care workers.
Mayor Michael Fougere said displaying hearts in the building’s ground-floor windows and lighting it in blue is just one small symbol of thanks.
“We’re in a very difficult circumstance everywhere and we just think it’s important to recognize that health-care workers are on the front lines of keeping us safe and healthy and (to) recognize the great work they’re doing each and every day,” Fougere said Friday.
“(We’re) just honouring them for what they’re doing for us because without them we’d be in much worse trouble than we are right now.”
Fougere pointed out other emerging trends like police officers lighting up their vehicles in a parade around the hospital to show their thanks and solidarity.
“It’s an emerging trend that just really shows that we are a caring community and we care for each other,” the mayor said.
He encouraged all residents to take part in some of these trends of decorating windows at home to show their solidarity as a community while following the rules of social distancing.
“We know the seriousness of what’s in front of us and we know people are out there silently working really hard on our behalf to keep us safe and protect us and make sure that we get through this very devastating time right now,” he said.
