A 31-year-old Regina man is facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the city’s seventh murder of 2020.
Joseph Delaney Oakes was charged after 54-year-old Jones Raymond Oakes died following an incident in a house on Fisher Street on Friday.
A Regina Police Service spokesperson confirmed the victim was the father of the accused.
In a media release Monday, the police service said officers were called to the home Friday at 8:20 a.m. When they arrived, they saw a man running from the house but managed to stop him.
Officers found a 53-year-old woman who had been injured as well as a man who had suffered serious injuries. They performed CPR on him until the arrival of paramedics, who pronounced the man dead.
The younger man was charged with first-degree murder and assault with a weapon. He made his first court appearance Monday.
