The RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating the death of an inmate at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre.
It’s the second death at the jail in less than a month.
In a media release, the Government of Saskatchewan said a male inmate who was on remand was found unresponsive in his cell Thursday at about 7:20 p.m. He was later pronounced dead.
The Ministry of Corrections and Policing said the death was not related to COVID-19, but didn’t provide any other details about the incident such as the age of the man or for what offence he was being held.
The ministry said it will be conducting an internal investigation into the man’s death.
