Weyburn General Hospital has transitioned back to regular operations.
On Jan. 17, the Saskatchewan Health Authority temporarily transitioned the facility to allow only COVID-19 patients on the inpatient wards. Non-COVID patients were taken to hospitals in other locations, primarily Estevan.
Emergency room services at the Weyburn facility were not impacted during the transition.
In a written statement, the SHA said health-care providers were redeployed to the hospital to help replace staff who had fallen ill. That allowed Weyburn to meet the service demands needed due to the COVID surge.
The hospitals in other communities that accommodated non-COVID patients also assisted.
An outbreak was declared at the hospital on Dec. 29, two days after an outbreak was declared at the Weyburn Special Care Home’s South Wing.
An outbreak at the north wing of the Weyburn Special Care Home was declared on Jan. 8.
