If you’re looking for a parking spot in a residential area of Regina, you might be out of luck.
While many people tend to park on the street, it has been made more difficult by snow ridges, put there by city crews plowing the roads.
Tyler Bien, Regina’s manager of roadway seasonal operations, explained it’s city policy to fill the parking lane during plowing.
“Therefore, the outside lane, the one closest to the sidewalks or yard, is used to store snow. It may not always be available for parking, depending on the amount of snow that was needed to be plowed,” he said.
The city will not further clear those parking lanes, unless the snow starts to extend out to the driving lane.
People can still try to park on the street, but Bien said it comes with a risk.
“Residents can park their vehicles as close as possible to the snow ridge, but they have to make sure their vehicles are not encroaching on the driving lanes … That is not allowed,” he said.
He also recommends people shovel the ridges out themselves, or find a different spot to park.
Residential snow plowing continues until Feb. 5. You can see when your neighbourhood is scheduled for clearing here.
