The Saskatchewan RCMP said Wednesday charges won’t be laid in connection with a weekend incident that police initially thought was an abduction.
On Sunday, the Mounties issued a release saying they were searching for a 30-year-old woman who may have been abducted in Regina by a 29-year-old man. The alert was sent out after a friend got a concerning Facebook message from the woman.
The couple was found safe and sound Monday near Bankend.
On Wednesday, the RCMP said the Major Crime Unit-South had concluded its investigation and decided not to lay charges.
The investigation also determined the truck thought to be connected to the case was not, so police aren’t looking for it any longer.
However, the man involved — Kelly Baht — was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large. The Regina Police Service is to handle that investigation.
“As this RCMP investigation is now considered complete, we do not anticipate further updates and do not have any other information to share,” the Mounties said in a media release.
