It takes two vaccine doses to be fully protected against COVID-19, and apparently it also takes two rounds of battle between Regina and Saskatoon to see which city can get more doses.
Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark and Regina Mayor Sandra Masters are back at it. Just like last month, the cities are once again challenging one another for immunization supremacy. This time, it’s for total shots.
“First or second doses, it’s the number of vaccines delivered in either city during the month of July,” Masters explained.
“The age-old rivalry between Saskatoon and Regina is alive and well. Since we were victorious in June, (Clark) wants to see if Saskatoon can beat us in July but I have faith in Regina.”
A similar challenge took place during the final two weeks of June, when the cities competed to see who could get more first doses. Regina edged out Saskatoon and it means Clark will have to lip sync The Last Saskatchewan Pirate on video.
The loser of the July challenge will have to do something similar. The song “It Takes Two” by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock has already been chosen.
With Step Three of the province’s reopening plan starting on Sunday and all remaining public health measures being lifted, Masters said now is the time to get a shot for those who haven’t already.
“Given that, again, we’re coming into Rider games and QCX and we’re all wanting to get back with family and friends, get your second dose,” she said.
