Regina police are assisting with an investigation into the death of a 56-year-old Regina man who was hit by a train Sunday.
According to a release, the Regina Police Service (RPS) received a report from CP Rail just after 3 a.m. on Aug. 1 stating that one of their trains had just struck a pedestrian.
The train was heading eastbound at the time of the incident.
Police located a man just east of the Albert Street overpass where the train stopped. The man was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene.
A coroner was requested to the scene by police and statements were gathered from personnel on the train as part of the investigation. Forensic Identification members were also requested to assist in identifying the man and to gather evidence.
The man has been identified and his next-of-kin notified. RPS said his name will not be released.
Regina police are continuing to assist the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and CP Rail in the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Regina Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
