The Saskatchewan RCMP says there’s no evidence that would lead investigators to believe there’s a national security risk after 200 kilograms of commercial mining explosives were stolen from a southeastern Saskatchewan business on Sunday.
The Mounties said Wednesday they got the report of the theft Monday at about 5 a.m. They say that sometime between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Sunday, someone broke into the business and took off with the explosives.
According to a statement from RCMP, the mining explosives are “stable, and cannot be detonated without extremely specialized equipment. This specialized equipment was not taken with the explosives.”
The RCMP admitted the explosives are flammable, and the same caution has to be taken with them as with any flammable goods.
However, a flame alone is not enough to detonate them.
The statement added the White Butte RCMP is not aware of any recent similar type of theft.
“Partner agencies” have been notified, including Saskatoon and Regina police. The investigation continues to help find the explosives and those responsible for taking them.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.
