Saskatoon police tracked down and captured two very large suspects Tuesday morning.
Two moose were spotted by several Saskatoon residents between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
Brian Kendall said he was drinking his morning tea and watching the news when he caught a glimpse of the creatures outside his home on Leyden Crescent just after 7 a.m.
“I didn’t know what it was,” Kendall said with a chuckle. “I thought maybe it was a dog or something … just trotting down my quiet little crescent.”
At 7:30 a.m., Saskatoon police said officers were dealing with two moose close to Taylor Street and Ewert Avenue.
Police said they contacted conservation officers for help with the animals, and asked the public to not approach or chase the moose.
“Hopefully there’s not too much traffic, so they won’t cause that much chaos,” Kendall said.
Several police vehicles blocked off a small portion of Hilliard Street just off Broadway Avenue before 9 a.m. An officer was redirecting traffic away from the street where he said the two moose were in an effort to keep the animals from becoming spooked.
Police left the area just after 9 a.m. An hour later, police announced the two moose had been captured. The animals, they said, will be released later at a “safe location” by the Ministry of Environment.
Two callers told 650 CKOM the moose appeared to have been tranquilized near Market Mall.
Saskatoon has seen a few errant moose recently. In November, a moose crashed through the window of a Saskatoon school, startling staff and students. In that case, the moose was tranquilized and safely removed.
