Ituna’s Dawnann Klimczak now owns a home in Regina.
Klimczak won the grand prize of a $1.3-million showhome and $50,000 in the Hospitals of Regina Foundation’s Fall Home Lottery.
The 3,200-square-foot home in The Creeks features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, an open-concept kitchen and dining room, a wet bar and a spacious family room. It was awarded fully furnished.
Klimczak said this was her first time buying a ticket in Saskatchewan.
“We just moved from Airdrie, Alberta, to Ituna in March of 2021 to our family farm …,” Klimczak said Friday during a media conference.
“(We’re) first-time buyers in Regina. We’ve always supported our hospital lotteries in Alberta, and we wanted to do the same when we moved here, so this is the start for us. And we’re completely amazed that we were winners and especially amazed that we are the grand prize winners of the showhome.”
She said her family was shocked to find out they had won anything, let alone the grand prize.
“We had no expectations that we would be winning anything from the lottery, and it was mainly to support the hospitals in Regina,” she said.
The Klimczaks have not decided yet whether they’ll keep their new home or sell it.
With the ending of the fall lottery, Dino Sophocleus — the president and CEO of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation — said he’s thankful to the community for the continued support.
“The foundation to date has raised over $62 million through the home lotteries, which started in 1987,” he said. “Proceeds as always will go to support health care in southern Saskatchewan in our tertiary centres here in Regina.
“People come to Regina for many things, whether it’s pediatric care, cardiac care (or) if you need to have an operation. Last year, we had almost 24,000 surgical operations in Regina at the Regina General (and) the Pasqua (and) we have rehabilitation services at the Wascana Rehab Centre.
“All of those hospitals and all of the clinics and centres that we have in Regina demand a lot of technology (and) a lot of equipment, and more is supported by the foundation. We do this through these lotteries as well as other programs.”
Don Whitrow of Silton won $506,387.50 in the lottery’s 50/50 add-on, while Kenton Dumont of Regina won his choice of a 2023 Nissan Kicks SR Premium, a Mitsubishi RVR ES AWC or $30,000.
Spencer Bacsu of Regina won the Early Bird prize, a $750,000 Echo Lake cottage and $10,000.
Harold Remezoff of Regina had the winning ticket for a 2023 Audi A3 2.0T 40 Komfort and a 12-night tour for two through the Alps in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, or $75,000.
Eugene Bayda of Saskatoon won a 10-night vacation package to Bali or $20,000.
