A 42-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly stealing a running vehicle from outside the front entrance of a Regina hospital and taking it on a short-lived joyride.
According to police, the victims were leaving Regina’s General Hospital shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Police said the victims were helping a family member into the passenger seat when the man jumped into the running vehicle and took off.
It turned out the suspect wasn’t a very good driver.
“Before exiting the parking lot, the suspect hit a parked vehicle and a construction fence,” police said in a statement, adding that nobody was injured in the crash.

About 15 minutes later, police said officers were called to the area around 14th Avenue and Osler Street for a report that the stolen vehicle had struck a curb and was hung up on the sidewalk.
The heavily damaged vehicle was found at the site of the second crash, and police said officers tracked the suspect down at a business on Saskatchewan Drive where he was arrested.
He’s now facing charges of motor vehicle theft and failing to stop after an accident.
