The Cathedral Village Arts Festival tasted success with its latest fundraiser.
Between admissions, tasting tickets, silent auction sales and donations, Saturday’s Taste Of Cathedral raised just over $15,000 for the cash-strapped festival.
Organizers had said before the event that the goal for Taste Of Cathedral was $10,000.
“We are so happy and so grateful,” Linda Rattray, the Taste Of Cathedral co-ordinator, said in a media release. “The days leading up to Taste Of Cathedral can be pretty stressful, you don’t know how ticket sales will go. And then, when we looked at the final tallies, just, WOW!
“To know that so many people support the Arts Festival and the work we do is really heartwarming.”
Taste Of Cathedral was held at the Canadian Italian Club and featured tastings from many Cathedral-area restaurants and shops, as well as a silent auction.
A signed Connor Bedard jersey brought in $1,500 in the auction. The former Regina Pats star was the first pick overall in the 2023 NHL entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.
“We have this very kind soul who works in our building, and he donated this jersey even after he stood in line for five hours to get the signature,” Rattray said before the event.
The festival has been struggling financially due to the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as reduced sponsorships and grants, and the effects of inflation on the costs of venue bookings and stage rentals.
Every show and event put on during the Cathedral Village Arts Festival is free to the public, so the majority of the festival’s money has to be raised through fundraising.
The 2024 Cathedral Village Arts Festival — featuring music, drama, dance, poetry and visual arts — is scheduled for May 20-25.
