Originally charged with attempted murder before the charges were escalated to murder, a man in his 20s pleaded guilty and was sentenced in June for a death in 2022.
In May 2022 Tegan Laplante was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, forcible confinement and kidnapping.
Police had been called to a house on Garnet Street, near 6th Ave. in North Central, where they found a woman who’d been badly hurt — Lori Shannon Huntinghawk. She was taken to hospital by paramedics.
About a week later Leplante was arrested under those charges.
About a month later, Huntinghawk died of her injuries, so those first charges against Laplante were withdrawn and a new charge of first-degree murder was filed.
A first-degree murder charge was also filed against Ashley Rempel, but that was stayed in April 2023.
In June 2024, Laplante pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 18 years. He was also given a DNA order and a firearms prohibition for life.
