The waves on Wascana Lake may be a little more intense than usual this weekend during the annual Shake the Lake music festival.
Friday’s show kicks off with School of Rock and Blu Beach Band, followed by Vancouver’s Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts, known for hits such as “Something to Live For” and “Come Back to Me.”

The Canadian content will continue on Friday evening with another staple of the 1980s rock scene, Honeymoon Suite. The Niagara Falls, Ont., band is responsible for singles such as “New Girl Now,” “Burning in Love,” “Stay in the Light” and “Feel It Again.” The band has also steadily produced new material, including the 2024 album Alive and 2025’s Wake Me Up When the Sun Goes Down.
The Friday night headliners are Sugar Ray, best known for their 1997 hit “Fly,” as well as “Every Morning” and “Someday.” Lead singer Mark McGrath is also known for his work as a television host on shows such as Extra and Don’t Forget the Lyrics.
The rock continues Saturday, with the show opening with Sons of Arthritis, followed by Saskatoon’s Wide Mouth Mason, which rose to prominence in the late 1990s with hits such as “Midnight Rain,” “My Old Self” and “This Mourning.”
Headpins, a Vancouver-based band formed by members of Chilliwack, will follow. They gained fame in the early 1980s with the hits “Don’t It Make Ya Feel” and “Just One More Time.”
Up next will be 54-40, performing favourites such as “Baby Ran,” “One Day in Your Life,” “Ocean Pearl” and “I Go Blind,” which was covered by Hootie and the Blowfish in a version featured on the first soundtrack for the TV show Friends.
Smash Mouth will close the festival Saturday night with hits such as “Walkin’ on the Sun,” “All Star” and a cover of the Monkees’ “I’m a Believer.”
The gates outside the Conexus Arts Centre open both days at 3 p.m. Tickets are available online.
