Health-care worker contract negotiations appear to be getting more contentious, with SEIU-West filing an unfair labour practice complaint against the government’s bargaining unit.
On Friday, the union said the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations Inc. (SAHO), which represents the government side in health-care bargaining, was attempting to extort its members through bargaining.

The union said SAHO keeps including proposals to move health-care workers around without consulting them or their union, and the union claimed that violates the Saskatchewan Employment Act.
“SAHO’s proposals for movement of work undermine the working conditions and quality of life for thousands of healthcare workers in this province. Patient care and safety will be endangered,” said Lisa Zunti, president of SEIU-West, in a news release.
In its complaint, SEIU-West asked the Labour Relations Board to order SAHO to come to the table with a fair proposal.
SEIU-West represents more than 13,500 health-care workers in the province. The union and SAHO have been bargaining for a new contract for three and a half years.
980 CJME has reached out to SAHO for its response.
Earlier this week, Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said there had been progress at all the health-care bargaining tables and that his government wants to reach agreements with all of them.
