RCMP briefs: La Ronge men face weapons charges, search for Fox continues

Three La Ronge men are each facing several charges after the car they were travelling in was stopped by conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch at about 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 26 on Highway 2 near La Ronge.

According to the RCMP, the vehicle had been reported stolen from the La Ronge area. When it was pulled over, officers saw firearm parts inside.

Two men were arrested at the scene, while a third fled on foot. La Ronge RCMP was called in to assist, and an RCMP police dog tracked the man through a wooded area with the help of a remotely piloted aircraft system used to conduct aerial searches.

The man was eventually located and arrested by Saskatchewan RCMP. A search of the vehicle yielded a gun, firearm parts, a machete and soft body armour, police said.

The three men — aged 49, 40 and 37, all from La Ronge — are facing weapons-related charges. The 40-year-old is also facing one count of resisting or obstructing a police officer.

All three made their first appearances in La Ronge Provincial Court earlier this week.
