The province’s largest long-term care facility under construction is 30 per cent complete.
The 240-bed Regina Specialized Long-Term Care Home is expected to open in mid-2028.
“There’s a little bit of time left to go,” said Seniors’ Minister Lori Carr. “But as you can see, it takes a long time to build a facility of this size. We’ll have to see as the construction progression goes.”

The facility, located south of Regina’s Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus, will replace beds at the long-term care facility in the Pioneer Village neighbourhood.
Carr said the facility will employ 460 full-time health-care workers.
The care home will help residents with complex long-term care needs such as dementia and brain injuries.
“When we open up this facility, probably the first thing that will happen is Pioneer Village residents will start moving over here,” she said. “We know that there is a wait list.”
Carr said some patients will be repatriated to Regina. She believes the facility will fill up quickly.
“I think any time that you can get care closest to home, it really is the best for the families that are involved,” she said. “Obviously, if you don’t have to travel long distances to see your loved one, you can visit them more often.
“It’s more convenient for everybody, and even for that individual staying in their home community, so they’re not displaced.”
Crews will continue with roofing, window and door-frame installation over the next few months, according to Sask Builds Minister Sean Wilson.
Since March, workers have poured concrete for the building’s various wings.
Carr said the government is working on securing contractors for future long-term care homes in Watson and Estevan.
A long-term care home with 80 beds in La Ronge is expected to open in 2027, while a 33-bed long-term care home in Grenfell is 50 per cent completed.
