Golf season begins today.
In snow-covered Saskatchewan we may not get onto the courses for another month, but that’s a mixed blessing because it also means there’s no yard-work that needs to be completed while we watch the Masters on television.
As loathe as some of us are to admit it, the return to competitiveness of Tiger Woods adds to the drama of the biggest golf tournament of the year.
People who rarely watch golf will watch because of Tiger, who unbelievably played a practice round this week with Phil Mickelson.
The thawing between the long-time, bitter rivals adds a nice twist to an event that either could win. So could Dustin Johnson. Or Jordan Speith. Or Bubba Watson. Or Jason Day. Or breakout star Justin Thomas. Or Sergio Garcia could win back-to-back.
That’s what makes all of this so compelling: any of golf’s big names could don the winner’s green jacket. Or it might be someone we’ve barely heard of. My money’s on Rory McIlroy, so he can complete his career Grand Slam.
