An Ontario man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Regina woman as he drove her to Manitoba has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.
Colin Jonas Kelly of Thomasburg, Ontario was arrested and charged in May of 2014 for a crime dating back to 2010.
On June 18, 2010 a 22-year-old woman showed up a tourist information centre near the Saskatchewan and Manitoba border. She told people there she had been taken from a nightclub in Regina and sexually assaulted. The woman had left the bar early in the morning and was picked up by a man driving a semi. He drove for several hours and left her near Kirkella, Manitoba.
Kelly was released on bail from Saskatchewan Provincial Court in June 2014 because he had to finish serving a separate prison sentence in Ontario for unrelated charges.
He faces a one year jail sentence which will be added on to the sentence he is still serving in Ontario.
