Murray Wood The end of the great Canadian game as we know it
The last Roughrider home game was the last CFL game in Saskatchewan played on a CFL-sized field. Murray Wood thinks it's...
Jamie Nye had a perfect description of Canada’s only Major League Baseball team.
During Saskatchewan Afternoon on Thursday, he called them the “Happ-less Toronto Blue Jays.” Jamie said he read the pun on Lowetide’s Twitter account before the team traded its best pitcher, J.A. Happ, to the New York Yankees.
The Blue Jays have dropped out of playoff contention and it’s actually kind of amazing how far and how quickly the team has fallen since back-to-back postseason appearances in 2015-16. They’ve been truly hapless for the past 1 1/2 seasons.
Those contending Blue Jays teams had big-name stars like Happ, Russell Martin, Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion. As those players left, got hurt or became ineffective, the Blue Jays have started to rebuild. They can take heart from the reigning-champion Houston Astros, who challenged for the 2005 World Series with a roster full of big names before starting to rebuild. It only took the Astros 12 more years to win it all.
