Norway Contacts Moose Jaw Calling for a ‘Moose Truce’

The Norwegian town of Stor-Elvdal, the municipality that has been feuding with Moose Jaw, is calling for a moose truce.

Vice Mayor Linda Otnes Henriksen of Stor-Elvdal, the current home of the World’s Tallest Moose, has contacted Moose Jaw City Hall to discuss the possibility of coming to Saskatchewan to initiate peace negotiations.

“I’ve been in contact with Linda and she’s a very nice woman. She did message me this morning about the possibility of her coming to the city of Moose Jaw. We would love to have her and anybody else from her city.”

Mayor Tolmie says this visit could open up interesting and exciting ideas.

“There are some great possibilities about maybe twinning the two cities, maybe sharing a bit about their story and they share a bit about our story. Create more of a tourist opportunity around this. I think there are some great possibilities and potential.”

According to the article, which you can read here, Otnes Henriksen says, “We have contacted Mayor Fraser Tolmie in Moose Jaw to look more closely at the possibility of initiating a dialogue about building the moose the same height so that we can share the world record.”

“I think they’re trying to put out an olive branch,” says Mayor Tolmie in response to the article, “and we’re not going to ignore that.”

Stor-Elvdal’s moose stands at 10.3 metres, while Mac’s current height is 9.8 metres tall.
