Saskatoon-based resource company BHP is continuing its support for STARS, committing $525,000 to the helicopter air ambulance service over the next three years.
BHP has been a strong supporter of STARS since its Saskatoon base first opened in 2012, contributing roughly $6.5 million to the organization over the years and acting as the presenting sponsor for STARS’ Critical Care on the Air Saskatchewan Radiothon.

STARS flew 921 missions in the province last year, and the organization said those missions would not be possible without support from groups like BHP.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with BHP and grateful for industry leaders like them who consistently invest in the well-being of our communities,” Dr. John Froh, STARS’ president and CEO, said in a statement.
“Strong community-minded organizations like BHP allow us to expand our reach, strengthen our operations and most importantly, ensure the health and safety of all.”
Karina Gistelinck, BHP Canada’s potash asset president, said the company considers safety to be a shared responsibility.
“Our renewed commitment to STARS reflects that responsibility and our deep appreciation for the life-saving care STARS provides across Western Canada,” Gistelinck said in a statement.
“Knowing that STARS is there for our employees at Jansen and for families in remote and rural communities gives us confidence and pride in this partnership. We’re honoured to continue supporting their vital mission.”
