A Saskatoon homeowner is recovering in hospital from smoke inhalation after safely escaping an early morning house fire on Hazen Street in the city’s North Park neighbourhood.
The Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) responded to the blaze at 2:28 a.m. on July 4, after the homeowner called emergency services.

When they arrived, SFD said crews encountered heavy smoke blanketing the interior of the home.
Emergency responders confirmed that everyone inside had successfully evacuated.
Paramedics with Medavie Health Services West treated the homeowner at the scene for smoke inhalation before taking them to the hospital for further medical assessment.
Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack on the structure, successfully knocking down the flames on the main floor shortly after entry, SFD said in a news release.
The department said that crews then deployed positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the remaining thick smoke and hazardous toxins from the home.
While the fire has been completely extinguished, a fire investigator remains on the scene to determine the cause, origin, and overall damage estimate of the blaze.
