Regina police seek tips after teen boy injured in assault

Police in Regina are appealing to the public for tips after a teen boy was injured in an assault near a school on Friday.

According to police, officers were called to the 5200 block of Rochdale Boulevard, where Winston Knoll Collegiate is located, at around 12:30 p.m.

“The caller reported a male youth was being assaulted by two other male youths, who then fled on foot,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement.

“School Resource Officers (SROs) in the vicinity responded within minutes and located the 14 year-old victim. He was transported to hospital by family members with, what appeared to be, non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police said an investigation into the attack is ongoing, and asked any members of the public with information on the incident to get in touch with the Regina Police Service or make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers.

Evading police charge

Regina police responded to a separate incident around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20.

According to police, patrol officers saw a vehicle with a tinted cover over its license plate in the area of Third Avenue and Montague Street.

When officers tried to stop the vehicle, it sped away.

The service’s Aerial Support Unit was notified and began tracking the suspect as he drove through the city.

Around Dewdney Street and Pinkie Road, an officer deployed a tire deflation device, causing the vehicle to stop.

According to police, the 44-year-old driver was taken into custody and charged with flight from a police officer.
