Regina police urge road safety after recent collisions involving vehicles, pedestrians, bikes

In the past seven days, police responded to eight collisions, including four cyclist-vehicle collisions, three pedestrian-vehicle collisions and one e-bike-vehicle collision that left a 34-year-old man dead on Saturday.

According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Regina Police Service, officers were called to the 400 block of Albert Street at about 8:10 p.m. after receiving a report of an injured man.

“Officers arrived within minutes and located a 34-year-old male who appeared to be seriously injured,” the police force said in a statement.

“Officers attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived. The victim was transported to hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.”

Police said the crash remains under investigation, but evidence indicates the cyclist collided with a vehicle as it turned into a parking lot.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured, according to police.

Investigations into all of the collisions are ongoing.

Police also shared safety tips for all road users. Drivers must be able to see clearly out of all windows and mirrors. They are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and that “if a vehicle in front of you or next to you is stopping, do not proceed or try to go around them as there may be a pedestrian crossing the street.”

Additionally, drivers should remember that all corners are considered crosswalks and should watch for pedestrians crossing.

Pedestrians should cross at a crosswalk or corner and ensure vehicles have stopped before stepping in front of them.

E-bike and bicycle riders should wear a helmet and follow the rules of the road.
