Two arrested after cop spots men carrying bear spray: Police
Two men were arrested on Friday evening after a Regina police officer allegedly spotted them carrying canisters of bear spray in plain view.
According to police, officers spotted the men as they were riding bicycles through a parking lot on Dewdney Avenue at about 10:20 p.m.
Police used an aircraft to monitor the men from above until they were arrested by officers on the ground.
“Both individuals resisted arrest and attempted to flee police on bicycles. One was arrested shortly thereafter, while the other continued fleeing briefly on foot before being arrested,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement.
“Searches following their arrests resulted in the seizure of bear spray and a knife from one male, and bear spray from the other.”
Police said both men – ages 26 and 33 – are facing charges of resisting arrest and possessing a weapon, while the younger man was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
Both men are expected to appear in Regina Provincial Court next month, police said.
