Regina police are now investigating the death of a man whose body was found in an abandoned vehicle in the North Central neighbourhood on Monday as a homicide.
Regina Police Service (RPS) said in a news release on Jan. 20 they would not be releasing the victim’s name while the investigation continues in what is believed to be the first homicide of the year in the city. Regina recorded 11 homicides in 2025, after only six were recorded in 2024.

RPS said the police plane was used to spot the vehicle in the early hours of Jan. 19 after the vehicle was driven off after officers attempted a traffic stop near Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street.
When police arrived in the 1400 block of Princess Street the vehicle had been abandoned except the body of the man. Police said that further investigation led officers to a home in the 3700 block of Dewdney Avenue and officers secured both scenes.

Death of man found in Eastgate not criminal, police say
RPS said on Monday that the death of a man whose body of a man in the Eastgate neighbourhood on Saturday was not a criminal matter.
Police earlier said officers were called to the 2000 block of Prince of Wales Drive around 5 a.m. on Jan. 17 and found the body before calling in the Forensic Identification Unit.
Police said the name of the dead man would not be released.
